Narconon Arrowhead Community Open House
A strong local community plays a vital role in the success of any drug rehabilitation center. At our center, this supportive network includes treatment providers, successful graduates who have achieved lasting sobriety, and friends and family members of our students. This sense of community is fundamental to helping people overcome drug addiction and rebuild their lives.
Also, as drug addiction affects not only the addict but all those surrounding or connected to the person suffering from addiction, rehab centers need to be there for their communities in real, meaningful ways.
With this mission in mind, Narconon Arrowhead recently hosted an open house for local residents and program graduates. This event provided an opportunity for alumni to share their success stories, maintain connections, and receive ongoing support in their recovery journey and brief the community on tools they can use to themselves be effective in handling the drug epidemic.
During the event, Narconon Arrowhead welcomed guests—both community members and graduates—through its doors. As visitors arrived, staff members conducted small group tours of the property. The staff walked the attendees through the facilities and explained how the program works in support of long-term recovery.
The highlight of the event came when three graduates took the stage to share their stories. First was Hank Miller, who has been drug-free since completing the program in 2007. Hank’s story touched everyone in attendance. In his own words:
“Narconon helped me get my life back in 2007. I was at the pits of my life. I was not suicidal, not a suicidal type person, but I got to a point in my life where the drug addiction and things and the decisions I had made really destroyed my life; it destroyed my family. I had children, grandchildren, and a business, and I had lost hope in my ability to get sober.”
Hank shared how the program helped him rebuild his life: “I learned how to listen and just learned how to do normal human skills in life, and those were taught strongly here. I didn’t realize how much of that I really didn’t have, and so if that was all I got out of the program, that was almost enough, but it was more; it was above and beyond that.”
Tom Widman, who has maintained sobriety since 2005, spoke next. His story resonated with many as he described how Narconon’s consistent approach helped him build a new life. Today, Tom dedicates himself to helping others in their recovery journeys.
The final speaker was a graduate who shared her personal journey to sobriety and her current work helping others take their first steps toward recovery. Her passion for giving back to the recovery community inspired all who attended.
To conclude the event, the Deputy Executive Director discussed the current state of addiction in society and how Narconon Arrowhead continues to adapt and respond to evolving challenges. The presentation highlighted several community outreach initiatives, including the center’s drug education and prevention programs. As part of these efforts, Narconon distributed comprehensive drug education materials to all attendees. These included detailed informational fliers about twelve major drugs: Ketamine, Marijuana, Alcohol, Painkillers, Synthetics, Methamphetamines, Ecstasy, Fentanyl, Crack, Prescription Drugs, LSD, and Cocaine. Each flier, complete with a display stand, was designed to be shared within the community, providing practical tools for drug prevention and education.
The open house proved to be more than just an informational session—it became a powerful demonstration of Narconon’s impact on the community. Past graduates shared their success stories with enthusiasm, connecting with others who had similar experiences. Community members who attended expressed their appreciation for both the facility and the program. Many noted how the event transformed their perspective, moving from uncertainty about what to expect to understanding the value of collaboration between Narconon and the local community.
These gatherings, combined with practical resources like the educational materials, reinforce Narconon’s mission to help people build drug-free lives while actively supporting community prevention efforts.
