Gaining New Friendships

When I first started the Narconon program, I had no idea this would all change as I was about to become part of something special. We enter rehabilitation at our lowest point. We graduate on a high note. In between, we develop bonds with those around us and these bonds last far beyond the program. They were part of our journey in getting clean and sober, and they remain part of us forever.

One of the lasting gifts a person receives at Narconon is being able to see and feel real friendships. During the throws of my addiction, I was mostly surrounded by people who were a negative influence on me. Looking back, I can clearly see that people were just ‘there’ and I had no meaningful relations with others. In fact, most of the relationships I had were so centered on using drugs and alcohol that real human contact was essentially lost.

After some time out of the program, I realize now that there is nothing else like it. They are the people who have seen us at our weakest moments and are eyewitnesses to our transformation.

Upon entering a Narconon center, you will meet people from all over the country and all over the world. They will be from different backgrounds and come from all walks of life. No matter the differences, the bond that ties is strong. The process of growth and change is never easy. It takes dedication and perseverance. Sometimes it takes a helping hand.

In the initial stages of the program, students are paired with another student to help them get through various training routines and objective exercises. The progress that both you and your twin make during this part of the program makes for a unique relationship. Being an eyewitness to someone regaining control over their own life is remarkable.

It has been over 10 years since I graduated from the Narconon program and to give an example of its strength I can say that I am still friends with my twin. We live on opposite ends of the country but geography is no stop to the bond we have because of helping each other make it through. We stay in touch.

“It is a testimony to the importance of having positive people in our lives and ones who have helped us grow.”

We are not the only people who stay in touch. I know of others who have developed deep friendships that continue to last beyond the program. It is a testimony to the importance of having positive people in our lives and friends who have helped us grow.

There is no doubt in my mind that having the right people around is part of living a healthy and successful life. The people I have met at Narconon will always be remembered as the group who saw me when I was at my most vulnerable and saw the climb back to being a real person once again.
